Get Accountability

The first method of getting yourself to take action is getting accountability. We all know we should do it and that it works, but many people don’t put in the effort to get it.

Accountability, simply put, is having a person who will keep you accountable to your goals. The best way to do this is to get a friend or family member you can talk to once every day or week, depending on what you’re trying to accomplish. All you have to do is tell them what you want to accomplish and then they will follow up with you until you accomplish the task.

Many people think that accountability rests on the person holding the other accountable, but in reality, the responsibility lies on both parties. You should be responsible for telling your accountability partner where you stand and they should follow up with you so that they can make sure you are making progress.

You need someone who will ask questions like: “How are things going? Have you made any progress towards your goal?” If your accountability partner doesn’t ask these questions, then it’s up to you to initiate the conversation about where you stand.
